A fairy tale tragedy

 A prince of the north,

A Princess of the east

Did once upon a time

Embark on love’s feast.

Their story was rife

With passion and plight

Till one fine day

Cupid regained his sight

His golden arrow,

It had missed its mark;

His aim, while true,

Was lost in the dark

They weren’t for each other,

Of two different worlds

One was salt and soil

The other pain and pearls.

But such was their story

On that fateful night

When reason was lost

And wrong made right.

It could never last,

They whispered at dusk

Her floral perfume

Should never have mingled with his musk.

Their prophecy was true

For it soon came to be

That love no longer enchanted

And their hearts were set free.

Dawn brought a new day

Of indifference and woe

So poignant that they wondered

What of each other they truly know?

A stranger with a familiar touch

A ghost of a smile that hinted

That there was once much more than this comfortable apathy,

That their worlds were in the same hue tinted.

The strings that bound them

Soon Unravelled and tore,

And their fairy tale romance

Is now a cautionary story of yore.
